National Unicorn Day Meetup 2024

The first event as part of the new tradition took place at Tel Aviv University and told the stories of the Israeli unicorns, created by Tel Aviv University alumni.

Just recently, a new study from Stanford University ranked Tel Aviv first in Israel and first outside of the US in the number of unicorns – private startups worth more than a billion dollars – founded by Tel Aviv University graduates.

In the panels that took place at the conference, stories of Israeli unicorn companies were presented and there was a discussion about raising funds nowadays for Israeli startups.

The following alumni took part in the panels:

Arik Faingold – Serial Entrepreneur, Chairman and President at Commit and co-founder of Pentera, which became a unicorn in 2022, graduate of the Coller School of Management.

Joel Bar-El – Co-Founder and Chairman of the Trax Retail Group, an alum of George Wise-Klausner Faculty of Life Sciences and Harvard University.

Panels moderator:

Meital Shamia – Global Innovation Manager and Strategic Partnership in Microsoft for Startups, an alumna of the Coller School of Management.

Dr. Eyal Benjamin, Faculty Member and Head of Coller School of Management in the Faculty of Management, said:

“Beyond the impressive entrepreneurial achievement of growing a venture to a billion-dollar value, unicorn ventures are considered a worthy financial success in capital investments. Tel Aviv University is proud to be the leading academic institution in the world outside the US, and its alumni create such unicorns. No less than that, Tel Aviv University is proud to be the leading academic institution outside of the US in growing startups that have received funding from venture capital investors. This tells a great deal about the quality of the students, but also about the powerful opportunities that open up to them during their studies at the university and afterward, both through the social capital they have accumulated and thanks to the many entrepreneurial activities on campus- the Coller Startup Competition, the Dan Launchpad Program and more”.
